mission: impossible II.....this 2000 blockbuster movie, fronted by the ultra-beautiful tom cruise, one of the most famous actors in the world, was a strong and very bold statement for an on-screen interracial couplings from a major movie studio and major film star. ENTER
tom and his highly successful mission: impossible franchise. at the time, tom was married to actress nicole kidman. nicole is australian and they were residing between australia and the USA during this time. this movie, the 2nd in this franchise, was to be filmed in australia. for the female lead/love interest for ethan hunt {toms' character in the MI series}, nicole suggested a friend of hers for the role; that friend, thandie newton {who is black}, was cast as ethans' love interest, nyah nordoff-hall. thandie is just stunningly beautiful and she and ethan made a fabulously GORGEOUS couple. here is a montage of clips, via youtube, for your viewing pleasure: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jgYdQLkRBy0. ...now, of course there was a nemesis in this movie, sean ambrose, {played by the uber-delicioso actor dougray scott}, a murderous sociopath {he's still gorgeous, as are his henchmen}. nyah ALSO had to be paired w/sean and they were also a very gorgeous looking couple.
i LOVED when this happened, because it shows that any actress {regardless of color/ethnicity} can be cast in lead actress roles, IF the story is right, the studio and cast is right...the timing has to be right, too...if, if, if....lol. it also definitely helps to have tom cruises' mega-strong influence involved. and mega-strong it was, because this all worked together AWESOME...and to date, this movie, M:I2, is the most successful of the MI franchise.
i also loved that this was, {movie-wise}, a racially drama-free role for thandies' character, nyah....meaning, there was no racial mention/tension, nor sideline nor distraction in this role or movie whatsoever; she was the female lead, heroine and love interest REGARDLESS, period. ving rhames is ethans' right hand man {luther stickell} in this series and the only other black actor regular in this film---but it remained DRAMA-FREE and the story was only about the crisis at hand and the budding relationship between ethan and nyah. this movie is DEFINITELY recommended for those who havent seen it....and watch it again for those who have.
MI4 is in the works...and tom has done it again. he has cast paula patton {a black actress and wife of robin thicke; paula and robin are an interracial real-life couple}. paula has the female lead of this movie....and i cant wait to see where that leads!!!

i recently came across keri hilsons video, "pretty girl rock". in this video, she pays homage to the strong black women influences of the past, {and the white andrew sisters, who are also in this video}, who paved the way for her success & opportunities today {as those and many other women have for a LOT of women}. ok, i dont usually watch this show....alright, ive NEVER watched it {lol}...only this episode. a quick synopsis: shawn {who's white, played by actor james roday} and gus {who's black, played by actor dule hill} are best friends from lil' itty-bitty childhood. together they run a "pscyhic" detective agency, named psych. the agency & shawns "psychic abilities" started out as a joke, but has proven highly effective in crime-solving...you still following?? ok, good! this Christmas episode, aptly titled "Christmas Joy", is from season three, episode nine}. in this episode, gus' big sister, joy {played by actress faune chambers} comes home for the holidays. as soon as she's welcomed home and everyone disappears leaving joy & shawn alone together, they are all over each other w/in seconds....turns out they hooked up tens yrs before. so now, they're both...{more-so joy}...interested in picking up where they left off, but shawn is hesitant....because shes his best friends sister AND, in shawns own words...shes the "the little girl who's hair he used to put frogs in"....soooo, naturally, this doesnt happen again; its fun watching them trying to get time alone together, but it just keeps coming up short. OH!! shawn and gus' detective frenemy at the station, det. carlton lassiter {played by actor timothy omundson} DOES put the moves on joy; but gus threatens to stomp him to dust, only being an overprotective little brother who doesnt want his colleagues dating his sister....if youve got hulu or amazon video on demand, this is a really cute episode.
first on my wish list is....ian somerhalder {a girl can wish right; they could come true}. so why not start with this beautiful sight! i can hardly contain my....thoughts...for this particular fiiiine looking man; and although i hadnt been a fan of the facial hair, this is completely acceptable and easily welcomed....it definitely works for him. ian is beyond STUNNING just to feast eyes upon...this one picture...says more than enough. see how his beautiful dark hair looks against his skin...just, close your eyes...and dream away. for me, i can stare into those eyes....for EVAH!!!!!

of course, im gonna make my very first real couple addition to this blog be....to david. he was my first husband and the very deepest love id ever known...he was...he was everything!! i lost him 6 wks before our first anniversary and its was just devastating w/out him. although i miss him very much, i prefer to celebrate his life and the love we had...and not dwell on the future we lost.

my first post is for my love and admiration to the interracial relationship between the fictional characters of the TV show, HawthoRNe, Dr. Tom Wakefield {played by delicious actor Michael Vartan} and Christina Hawthorne, RN {played by the stunningly gorgeous Jada Pinkett-Smith}.
i sincerely want to thank jada and michael....they have given us a great love story and brought it to life for us...in various blogs & gossip, jada and michael has been catching flack and questioned/villified for this; but.....im SOOO proud of them for giving us this visual insight into what we {like them} know to be very true.
HawthoRNe has a LOYAL FOLLOWING and we're also VERY excited to learn that there will be a season three; the critics have been really hard on our show and a LOT of shows have been canceled without even being given a proper chance to succeed....so, we're VERY grateful for this.
i first stumbled onto this show while watching TNT and seeing promos for the upcoming episodes, but hadnt gotten around to watching it...that is---until i saw the afterglow promos where christina and tom were HOLDING HANDS, exiting james river.
NOW...that shouldnt be that big a deal, right; but IT IS...because this is an interracial relationship! not just ANY interracial relationship, but one between a BLACK female and a WHITE male, the very least showcased or celebrated in entertainment or even pop culture, heck, in LIFE.
unfortunately, its quite rare to see a relationship like this, a SUCCESSFUL interracial BF/WM relationship like this, portrayed on network television; and even if they do venture into it, its about a fling or doesnt last, cant survive or inevitably fails, etc....and then theres the negative connotations also {blaxploitation, fetish, prostitution, mistress, ghetto, crime victim, etc}...so, to see a successful, beautiful black woman like christina hawthorne w/an equally successful and gorgeous white man like tom wakefield is not just rare, its A-MAZZZZING. they are both so BEAUTIFUL to watch and its a wonderful example for the black female/white male relationship bond for network television; not since the likes of tom & helen willis of the 1970s/80s show, the jeffersons, have we seen this.....it DOES happen AND its NOT rare and we DO WANT TO SEE THIS...its a reflection of us and its not nearly as represented as it SHOULD BE.
ive written, EXTENSIVELY, on the TNT/HawthoRNe support forum of my love for this couple; their journey, their struggles, their paths crossing.....its a very beautiful love story between them. im hopeful that more, in-depth character development of these two and this series will make this show a wonderful success. my HawthoRNe forum post are only my opinion of this show and these characters; there are also a great host of other FABULOUS posters and FANFICS, as well a MONTHLY CHAT {see forum for details}; so do check it out....its TONS of fun!!!
